Abstract
The collapse of a historical masonry structures in Europe in the late 1990’s, attracted researchers to investigate the long-term effect of masonry creep. Composite analysis of masonry panels considering creep and damage effects, showed that stresses in brickwork and mortar vary with time under sustained compressive stresses. In this study, a repeated unit element of mortar and brickwork is used to model a masonry panel as a composite structure. A step-by-step in time analysis is performed to track the load redistribution in the masonry panel. Time-dependent creep and damage are considered in realizing reliability of masonry. Furthermore, partial safety factors for masonry panel design considering creep and damage are calibrated using the Hasofer and Lind method. A design example using the proposed partial safety factor is presented.
