Abstract
The review and numerical analyses of mortar joint shear tests in the last 20 years indicates that theHofmann/Stöckl and triplet test are most capable of producing the most desirable results. This paper primarily presents the comparison and analysis of a proposed new test method and the two existing joint shear test methods by using Finite Element Analysis. A two-dimensional finite element model was utilised to indicate to which extent the proposed test method could be an alternative for the Hofmann/Stöckl and triplet test. Furthermore the paper describes a simple apparatus that could be used to perform the test. However the proposed method has been not tested in practice yet.
