Abstract
As design provisions for masonry are based largely on empirical relationships derived from experimental results, development of a more accurate in-plane shear test method is crucial. The standard test methods available, ASTM E72 and E519, have been proven to be ineffective in determining realistic in-plane shear values for masonry. The collective research project, ESECMaSE, has developed a more widely accepted static-cyclic in-plane shear test method for masonry. This test method has thus far been applied to unreinforced masonry. It has now been adapted for reinforced concrete masonry as this is the traditional masonry construction used in North America. This paper details the development, setup, and procedures of this test method. In addition, preliminary test results are presented and compared to current design standards
