Abstract
The paper presents a numerical finite element nonlinear procedure to study crack patterns in masonry buildings subjected to differential settlements. The procedure is applied to the case study of a terraced block in Great Pultney Street, Bath, UK, showing a Sinusoidal differential settlement, which is at present stabilised. The possible causes that triggered the deformation are discussed. The results are generalised to long regular facades. Finally the effectiveness of introducing bed joint reinforcement as a repair method is analysed and results are discussed.
