Abstract
In a pilot project two types of mortar made with four different sands were tested using clay engineering, calcium silicate and some common clay bricks. Properties of the materials are examined. Bond tests on 240 wallettes and 300 couplets are analysed in relation to the sand grading and mortar properties. A number of additional tests are listed, the most important being those using some 240 couplets with controlled moisture contents. The effect of varying moisture content ir, the bricks on tensile bond is examined.
