Abstract
As part of a wider programme examining the CF.N test method for the determination of masonry compressive strength using walletles, the effect of one weaker AAC block in the five or six forming the wallette has been examined. A single weaker block can have a disproportionate effect on the measured wallette strength. This paper examines the implications of using the test data as a basis for the characteristic strength to be used in the design of masonry structures and asks whether the specimen’s size reflects accurately enough the compressive strength of larger walls.
