Abstract
The surface temperatures of sample bricks have been monitored to identify the temperature at which latent heat effects occur, these being indicators of ice formation within the material. In a porous system this temperature is depressed below O’C due to a combination of effects. Data are presented which indicate that ice formation seems to occur within the material at temperatures varying between -0.2’C and -1.9’C. It is a useful parameter for evaluation of the risk of frost damage occurring from a set of environmental conditions.
