Abstract
This paper describes the development of a prestressed masonry code for the United States. It is proposed for inclusion into the first national building code (International Building Code or IBC) for the US in the Year 2000. A comparative analysis of a design example is used to highlight the prestressed masonry provisions of the 1998 Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC) code with those codes from the United Kingdom (BS 5628), Europe (EC 6), Switzerland (SIA VI77), and Australia (draft version).
