Abstract
Bricks have always been a very common building material, consequently it is frequently necessary to know how to restore old brickwork. The durability of the material is dependent on the weathering effects to which it is exposed. In order to explain the possible reaction mechanisms of a brick wall, the individual components of the environmental factors that may lead to the damage are listed, their effects on the masonry described and an attempt made to deduce the overall result.
