Abstract
This paper gives the first results of tests on unreinforced and reinforced masonry walls with openings. The walls were built with specially designed perforated clay bricks and were subjected to in-plane loads. The effect of the reinforcement on the strength and ductility of the walls was examined and the compressive strength and diagonal tensile strength, as affected by the grout and reinforcement, were also studied. Some general conclusions are given.
