Abstract
Compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of various sizes of specimens of calcium silicate brick and concrete block masonry have been determined together with corresponding properties of units. For height/width ratios of between two and eleven, strength and modulus of masonry are not significantly affected when the load is distributed through concrete cappings. Composite models yield more accurate predictions of elastic modulus than empirical relationships based on masonry or brick strength.
