Abstract
On the basis of at least three geographically separated cracking failures of organic fibre reinforced cement roofing shingles, current ASTM industry standards are questioned because the failed shingles comply with all of their requirements that have criteria. Some possible cracking mechanisms are presented and efforts to duplicate the cracking in a laboratory described.
