Abstract
Freeze/thaw performance, or more accurately the failure of the masonry to perform, has often been assigned to the inadequacy of one of the components of brickwork, be it brick or mortar. Recent work has indicated that one component alone may not be the sole cause of premature failure, but that the combinations of brick and mortar working together may ultimately control the durability.
