Abstract
The 1991 edition of the Uniform Building Code (UBC)[1], the most commonly referenced of three model building codes in the United States, contains a specification for mortar cement. This, while similar to masonry cement, has lower air entrainment and is required to meet certain flexural bond strength specifications using the Bond Wrench apparatus. Lower air contents in masonry mortars lead to enhancement of flexural bond strengths. Data are given for basic physical properties of mortar cement and mortar cement mortars such as compressive strength, air content, water retention, workability and flexural bond strength.
