Abstract
The change from massive masonry construction to modern lighter forms makes efficient detailing more important. Many serious problems on site have been directly related to poor detailing or errors in working drawings. The basic principles of masonry details and the presentation of the information should enable the designer to check that his intentions have been achieved and the details are buildable. The contractor should be able to use the drawings with confidence and build the structure in a satisfactory sequence. The designer and detailer should check that a satisfactory standard of workmanship is achieved and onsite checks and testing are being carried out. High quality detail drawings are essential to maintain standards on site.
