The structural behaviour of unbonded pre-stressed masonry walls was researched intensively at the Technical University of Braunschweig and at the University of Applied Sciences, Detmold, over the last 10 years. The load bearing capacity concerning combined vertical and bending loads, in-plane shear loads and concentrated loads due to pre-stressing forces were researched in detail. Based on a developed engineering model and supported by the results of detailed evaluation of the above-mentioned experimental investigations and of complementary nonlinear analysis new suitable design algorithms for unbonded pre-stressed calcium silicate masonry walls were generated. The results thereof will be briefly presented in this paper. The extensive representation for this purpose can be found in [5].
