This paper deals with the safety evaluation of masonry palaces with complex structural geometry and deals with recently developed strategies for masonry buildings seismic retrofitting. Numerical global models, using 3D solid finite elements, have to be used for dynamic linear analyses of the whole structure together with numerical models (both global and local) for static equivalent seismic non linear analyses (push over). At the same time, they have to be used also some local collapse mechanisms analyses. The choice of the techniques and the technologies for the static and seismic retrofitting has to follow a right consciousness about the hierarchy of interventions: intervention for the global behaviour improvement and intervention for local reinforcements
