Abstract
A series of full-scale tests to monitor the long-term stress/strain behaviour of clay brickwork cladding panels subject to vertical restraint by a reinforced concrete frame is described.
Part 1 of the paper gives details of the cladding panels and the frame on which they were built. The engineering properties of the brickwork and the concrete used in the frame, obtained from complementary small-scale tests, are also presented.
Part 2 of the paper, which will be published subsequently, compares the observed behaviour of the full-scale panels with that predicted from composite modelling of the small-scale test data. A design methodology for this form of cladding is then proposed.
