Abstract
Earthquake strengthening of brick masonry walls is generally needed due to unsatisfactory design or construction. Based on the test of four specimens under cyclic loading, the effectiveness of the new method of using continuous carbon fibre sheet (CFS) on seismic strengthening of the brick masonry walls was studied. The main factors such as the width of CFS strip, the X-shaped strengthening pattern, end anchorage of the CFS and other strengthening conditions were analyzed. The shear resisting mechanisms of the strengthened brick masonry walls were also discussed. Finally, the calculation of the strengthened brick walls with CFS is presented in the paper.
