Abstract
At present there is no formal national record of free-standing wall failures in the United Kingdom. BRE has recently produced guidance on the building of free-standing walls, and in the light of this it was felt prudent to build up a database of failed free-standing walls. The database contained details of 126 failures from across the country that had occurred between 1962 and 1990.
