Abstract

The results of vertical load tests on 25 walls with 150 mm cavities are reported. Leaves of autoclaved aerated concrete blocks, lightweight aggregate concrete blocks and Fletton bricks were used in various combinations. The recommendations in SS 5628′ to use stiff and strong ties are satisfactory but performance comparable to that of walls with 50 mm cavities may be obtained without increasing the number of ties.
