Abstract
An experimental programme was undertaken to study the effect of incorporating palm oil ash (POFA) and rice husk (RHA) on the properties of fired clay brick. Tests showed that clay bricks with addition of POFA up to 30% and RHA up to 20% could be manufactured. The high alkali content in POFA enables bricks to be manufactured at a lower firing temperature. RHA, which has a relatively high silica content, improves the compressive strength of brick samples significantly.
