Abstract
Preserving historical and cultural monuments and planning possible restoration makes investigations of the structural damage a priority in order to provide a diagnosis of the overall condition of the structure while assessing the structural safety. This paper reports on the analysis of the structural degradation of the Cathedral of Parma. The methods used included analysis of the historical evolution of the structure, a geometrical survey and a survey of the morphology of degradation, the design of instrumental monitoring, calculation of the results and numerical finite element analyses.
