Abstract

The paper discusses existing guidance in codes of practice on the provision of wall lies for cavity walls subjected to lateral loading and refers to the new BS DDI40. Finite element analyses are used to demonstrate the distribution of toad carried by wall lies depending on location and the properties of the leaves and lies in various configurations of cavity walls. An empirical method is proposed for calculating the provision of lies at panel supports.
